Tuning is the most important procedure that can be done to a piano to improve its tone. Each of your piano's 220+ strings is brought back to its correct tension so the instrument plays at concert pitch (A440), the standard your piano was designed and engineered around, and the pitch every other instrument and recording expects.

Every tuning appointment also includes a technician's ear and eye. Because Bradshaw Piano Service is trained in far more than tuning, each visit is a chance to catch small problems (a sticking key, worn hammer felt, a slipping tuning pin) before they become expensive ones.

Piano manufacturers recommend regular tuning, typically once or twice a year for a home instrument, and more often for teaching studios, churches, and performance pianos.

In Arkansas, humidity is the deciding factor: about 75% of the reason a piano goes out of tune is the seasonal swing in relative humidity, which physically moves the soundboard, and with it, every string. If your piano won't hold a tuning, a Damp-Chaser climate-control system is often the real answer.

If your piano hasn't been tuned in several years, it may have drifted well below concert pitch. In that case it may need a pitch raise, a preliminary rough tuning that brings the strings close to correct tension, before a fine tuning will hold.
